FOREWORD

It is with great honour and pleasure to share for the first time an annual report of the Medical Association of Tanzania. The association marks a new beginning on how we do business focusing on targets that are set in the 5 year strategic plan (2010 – 2015).

This year as MAT celebrated its 45th birthday it was exciting to look back and see how doctors have contributed to the achievements in human welfare particularly in medical research and service delivery.
Following challenges faced by the profession in the past, we strived to create an image that will be appealing to our esteemed members as well as partners interested to work with us.

We embarked on advocacy through different avenues that enabled us to come in contact with the general public as well as medical doctors.
We appreciate the great ideas and the support that has enabled MAT to achieve the successes that we have documented in this report.
We are optimistic that the challenges that we encountered this year will be addressed in the coming year through strengthening of partnerships at both local and international level.

We further believe that from this report more members will see the benefit of joining the association and actively participating in its growth.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank members and supporters for their encouragement, ideas and well wishes as we strived to accomplish the annual plan.

Dr Edith M. Ngirwamungu
President
Medical Association of Tanzania
